REPORT
The high rate of unemployment which cause poverty in this country and push this kids to left their homes and stay in the street. In July 2001, the Mustadafin Foundation embarked on a project to feed the street children and homeless of Cape Town.
At that time about 70 children and 6 families were living on the Grand Parade. The people had no shelter and were sleeping in doorway and under trees.
We started out by feeding them once a week, the menu consisted of soup bread and sandwiches the need however became greater and more & more people joined from the Station deck, Greenmarket Square, Long Street and Adderley Street.
With the help of additional sponsors we were able to feed at least 3 or 4 times a week. The menu also improved from only soup to curries, breyani and breads algamndulilah. Not only have Mustadafin provided food for the homeless but also provides blankets and clothing to those on the streets
At present we are feeding +- 250 people on the Grand Parade. We have people living on the street suffering from TB, High blood pressure, Diabetes, HIV & Aids; we have a 2 years old girl named Fezeka suffering from full brown Aids. As we know if you are HIV positive you need medicine and nutritional meals to keep your body strong, but for Fezeka and her mother it is a nightmare.
90% of the children have very little or no education. More than 50% of them are Muslim with no spiritual guidance.
At the moment there is a great need for blankets, Clothing, Medication and especially cooked food.
Thank you to everyone who supports the Mustadafin Foundation and continue to support us.
Insha-Allah
