The year 2001 has been a challenge for me as a field worker coordinating 18 pre-schools and sub-structures sponsored by Mustadafin Foundation. Mustadafin granted me the opportunity to learn more about the other services they offer to the impoverished and destitute. One is never confined to your area of responsibilities and it allowed wonderful personal growth in my life. Once again Mustadafin Foundation transcended expectations. Social services unexpectedly decided to suspend their usual services, providing essentials like foodstuff to creches. This situation dumped creches in a precarious position. Once again Mustadafin had to come to the rescue and managed the near impossible feat to supply some 18 creches with all their essentials for the year.

The Foundations core focus is supporting and ensuring creches provide a stimulating enabling environment for children. Amongst the many means to achieve this goal is organising exciting outings and programmes throughout the year 2001. Here follows the most important dates for the year 2002.

16th March - Muharram (Islamic New Year) Programme

27th March Inter Pre-school Sport Day

23rd and 30th May - Butterfly World visit

September - Childrens Day

September - Spring day

28 October - Coca - Cola visit

Mustadafin Foundation regrets that it is not immune to organisational problems. We were sad to learn one of our primary sponsors curtailed the extent of their donations. However we are working around the clock to effect some other organisations to fill the gap. Managing outings and programmes with a varied group of creches proved quite a challenge. With some teachers becoming bullish for more assistance, others demanded pick-up points to be moved closer to them. The first day of workshops also presented quite a coordinating head-ache. Many people were overawed by the occasion but this was soon replaced by joy and excitement when they witnessed the kids appreciative smiles. With the New Year many new expectations arise as the Foundation continue with the upgrading of training. The new Mustadafin creche in Khayelitsha was definitely a new challenge and working in a new community with different needs and expectations was welcoming and refreshing. The year-end with all its festivities and graduations went off well, however sadly we lost one of our great teachers Nonbulelo. A special funeral service was held in her honour. The opening of the centre by Naledi Pandor in July 2001 was the beginning of new and exciting things to happen. I extent a personal thanks to Director and Colleagues who have been a pillar of support and encouragement to me throughout.

I hope the year 2002 will be more forthcoming with funding, as that would make my task and that of the organisation easier.

DAWAH FIELD WORK AND MADRESSAH TEACHING OVERVIEW REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2001

Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

We hope that this reaches you at the best of health and Islamic spirit, Insha Allah.

The year 2001 was a year of challenges for us as compared to the previous years,but with the qudrat of ALLAH THE MOST HIGH we took up those challenges , mistakes and lessons for personal and collective growth. Never-theless the year 2001 was very outstanding as far as the da-awah and madressah is concerned. Our work as field workers had gone smoothly and we have achieved a lot. There was a full co-operation from the people in the townships as far as the da-awah and madressah teaching is concerned.

We are busy with da-awah activities in areas such as Crossroads, Langa, Guguletu, Delft and Khayeltsha.We also have madressah classes in all these areas. The madressah and da-awah programmes are taking place in Delft with Abdullah as the co-ordinator in the area and the jumuah is taking place every Fridays. People are comingin numbers to experience the new joy of the new multi-functional structure in the area. We have managed to invite bigger numbers of people through the da-awah programmes within the areas to join our classes. We have also fed and are still feeding a number of people with the Islamic knowledge and Alhamdulillah we are somehow joint-ly trying our level best to overcome the dangers surrounding us as the we are working in the most destitute and dangerous areas

We have a full programme for the year and would be participating in the inter madressa sport day on the

Lastly we pray that the Almighty Allahu subhanahu wa taala sends showers of blessings to all the management, the staff, the volunteers and the donors of the Mustadafin Foundatoin. May he place sabr and understanding in their hearts, Insha Allah. We also pray that the year 2002 be the year with lots of achivements and growth within the organisation insha-allah
