FEEDING SCHEME (15 000 beneficiaries per day)

Background:

In South Africa up to 44% of the populations is jobless. According to Social Welfare Minister Zola Skweyiya in 2004, 23 million people do not know what they will eat tonight and this problem is increasing.

In 2005 Mustadafin Foundation went into partnership with the Mitchell’s Plain Social Service to assist an extra nine areas in Mitchell’s Plain.

This schemes sees to the immediate needs of people living in the most impoverish arrears in the Western Cape. The program compliment the work of the Health group and provide for 15 000, men women and children and support various shelters on a daily basis.

Individuals and businesses supply this project with donations. Mustadafin workers and volunteers living in the areas do the distribution.  This is one of the projects of which we are most proud, since it serves as a reminder of our humble beginnings.

At the Rehabilitation center in Tafelsig we cater for the malnourished adults and children infected with HIV/AIDS who are refereed by the Mitchell’ Plain Day Hospital and the clinic. It is through this project that we are introducing interested individuals with no prior experience in community work to the activities of the Mustadafin Foundation.

What the Foundation does:

• Feed 15 000 people per day
• Improves the food security of these people who have been identified as deserving support. These people are suffering from unemployment, destitution, poverty, AIDS, TB, homelessness, and include the shunned elderly and the indigent.
• Create viable and sustainable employment and serve as a catalyst for job creation initiatives for government, private and public institution.

Objectives:

• Improved health and hygiene thereby increasing energy levels and productivity.
• Reduced hunger, stress and trauma.
• Correct intake of medication.
