Disaster Management

REPORT

Mustadafin Foundation have been actively involved with disaster relief since the establishment of the organization in 1986. Since then they have been extensively involved in and around the Western Cape and have gone even further example: Boland and West Coast assisting families in giving immediate relief.  Every year due to strong winds and heavy rains the Foundation are inundated with requests and demands in particular within the squatter camp and those areas affected due to high density and waterlog regions. This has always caused major loss to the families affected particularly the aged and children.

Because of the unpredictable weather during the winter months many families were left homeless due to the devastating effect of the natural disasters e.g.: strong winds, fires and wet weather had on their homes.  Not only had the rains and fires destroyed their homes but also their most valuable and irreplaceable possessions.

Mustadafin Foundation has come to the aid of a number of destitute families by providing food clothing, blankets and even building materials.

Mustadafin Foundation is in an organization who helps rebuild homes, families and individuals who have suffered loss during a disaster.  Assistance with counseling is offered to trauma victims to help regain the sense of self worth, independence and self reliance.  Even though the Mustadafin Foundation has done disaster relief since1986, below are a few of disasters of remembered times:

    • 1995 Maconi beam flood,
    • 1996 Worcester Christmas bomb Blast.
    • 1997 Philippi, Langa, Crossroad flood and fires
    • 1999 Tornado that hit Manenburg, Guguletu and Surrey Estate. Mustadafin provided counseling, food blankets and place the destitute families into Wendy Houses and renewed the homes that were destroyed.
    • 2001 Boland  fire
    • 2002 Boland

2003 Mustadafin Foundation was officially recognized by the Disaster Management as an organization who does disaster relief. Even though we have done disaster relief since 1986 the Disaster Management has now recognized our worth and we were teamed up with other Organizations like Salvation Army & Red Cross.
